I purchased a new 3 level Ryland home in Winchester Virginia in 2008. Noble Construction out of Sterling Virginia was contracted to do the roof on my new home.

After only 4 months I began to lose "chunks" of shingles that were improperly sealed and nails were driven too deep and high. The roof continued to be a problem which entailed not only Noble to come back in month 4 but twice in year 3. I was told it was out of warranty by the Ryland representative for my community even though the roof began having problems in the same area in year one. I finally resorted to having others then Noble roofing come to repair the roof over the upcoming years.

Two of those people had extensive experience in the roofing industry and deemed the roof a "failed roof" due to poor installation. After a few more years of frustration Ryland had a representative come out and ask me to send in samples of the shingles to CertainTeed to see if it was a shingle problem. Funny why they never asked me to do that in the first 5 years when I had constant issues. I was told by many that if it was an installation problem that it would be a totally "moot" point to send the shingles in.

Besides that it was past the 5 years where CertainTeed would do anything about it anyway. I finally had to hire a local roofer here in Winchester Virginia too replace the right front 20% of my roof completely. Bob Gerring came with numerous high ratings on HomeAdvisor.com and did a magnificent job on the part of the roof he replaced. He did warn me as many others had that it was just a matter of time until the other areas of the shingles would fail.

Finally, after a great deal of letter writing and pursuing Ryland decided to get their most recent construction supervisor, along with the company who put the Shingles on, Noble Construction and CertainTeed Shingle Representative come out and together agreed to seek out a report from a neutral party to do an inspection on my roof. Twist of Fate I was told about 45 days later Ryland did not like the report. It clearly stated how the roof was improperly installed with high nailing, lack of starter shingles, drip edges (which were HIGHLY recommended on the package) and other issues. Despite this report from a company THEY had hired ALL Ryland offered was to have the same company come back who put this pathetic shingle job up and do spot repairs and check over the roof.

Why in the world would I trust that.

All in all it has been a 6 year runaround and you certainly need to be VERY, VERY cautious when buying from Ryland Homes and the corners they cut and the people they contract out. There is so much more to this story and how I have been treated but I warn you to no use Ryland as a builder, CertainTeed shingles or Noble Construction in Sterling Virginia to do any of your work!!!
